Justice and Righteousness

Living the Prophetic

Living the Prophetic 2560 1920 Nicole
Lin-Manuel Miranda is a modern-day prophet. He knows this country’s history and the constitution that supports it, and recognizes the beauty and potential the documents hold – and the abuses carried out in service to it. He tells it with culture-centric music styles, casting of diverse leading roles, humor and heartbreaking narrative. The prophet Hosea knows God and Israel’s history, and sees the abuses carried out in the name of religion, and tells the story through his own marriage – not much humor, probably no music, but definitely a lot of heartbreak. read more

Accepting Love

Accepting Love 2560 1920 Nicole
When I notice you loving each other; when we experience joy together; when we act as instruments of peace . . . These are the effects of God’s act and being in our world, much like the way physicists observe the act and being of particles in our universe. How we do theology matters. When my data – how I experience God, understand scripture – when my data overlays yours, and then ours together overlays your neighbors, etc., imagine! Imagine the remarkable things we can see with our collective visions of God’s very presence among us and as vast and vaster still as the unfathomable universe we can actually observe. read more

Inherent Trust

Inherent Trust 2560 1920 Nicole
Trust that while I no longer hold all the power, I also no longer hold all the responsibility – And no longer the only source of creative vision. So I must be willing to let go of some of my brilliant ideas and consider someone else’s perhaps more brilliant idea – even better, we collaborate, come up with something we would never have come up with on our own. Others will only have opportunity to participate in leadership when those who occupy that leadership space move aside, give up that space or share it outright. Shared leadership only happens when it is shared. read more

Inherent Strength

Inherent Strength 2560 1920 Nicole
Elijah threw his mantle on Elisha. This mantle that, when rolled up and stuck in the Jordan, had the power to part it. Elijah had to give up power in order than Elisha might live into that power. There is no question incomprehensible power flows through Elijah. But he does not use it to manipulate or coerce or intimidate Elisha into doing anything. Real strength, true power, is in the freedom to step aside, to let go of some measure of control (don’t annihilate one another). Or maybe give up some of your free time to give it to another who might benefit from your guidance, your wisdom (love as you want to be loved). read more

Inherent Attention

Inherent Attention 2560 1920 Nicole
God is mindful of us. God is attentive to us. We are also created in the very image of God, so we are inherently predisposed to pay attention to one another. First, we must believe God IS. That is faith. Faith moves us. Faith isn’t just repeating lines we heard at church or in a song. It moves us toward a path, a way of being, or course of action. Otherwise, it is just memorizing facts for a test – one that doesn’t give us credit in any university or trade school. And it is an act of discipleship. read more

Inherent Wisdom

Inherent Wisdom 2560 1920 Nicole
Wisdom is found in the production of peace. It is in the unity with God and with one another – the bond, the relationships we make, to nurture and protect. Wisdom is infused in the glory of God, the evidence of God’s presence in us and in creation. It increases with the transformation of us into the More Than – into more of who God created us to be – image-bearers. Glorious. Love. read more

Empowered By Love

Empowered By Love 2560 1920 Nicole
Each language reflects nuances of the culture it represents. And to learn another language not only opens the way to be in conversation with one who speaks it, I learn a different way to even think about living a life. It can also be a tool to distance, categorize, the ‘other.’ Love requires vulnerability, and to create means making something that’s never been – vulnerable. love. read more

Sent By Love

Sent By Love 2560 1920 Nicole

We’re four misfits who don’t belong together, we’re playing for the other misfits. They’re the outcasts, right at the back of the room. We’re pretty sure they don’t belong either. We belong to them.Freddie Mercury You are unique. I am unique. How can we think that it is a good thing to try and do…

Inked By Love

Inked By Love 2560 1920 Nicole

See goodness. Jesus asked Peter, Do you love me? three times. Jesus replied, Feed my sheep. All of them. The unforgivable sin is to not recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ performing God’s work. When I notice a person living in a certain way and judge that lifestyle as contrary to God…

Shekinah, Dimensionality, and Unity

Shekinah, Dimensionality, and Unity 2560 1920 Nicole
Those who were and are rejected by the church want to know God, want to be in God’s presence, want to be the place (vessel) where God’s Name resides – as the temple that Solomon built to house God’s name, this same Solomon from whom the Queen of the East came to hear wisdom. Someone greater than Solomon is here who already made the places for God’s name to reside—Shekinah. read more
