Flesh and Blood

Flesh and Blood 150 150 Nicole

the-word-became-flesh-2016

I love the Message translation of John 1:14—“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Parent, like Child, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”

Advent prepares us for the celebration of this event: God-with-us. And then, it seems, we all collapse. How do I live what I claim to believe? God’s glory became flesh and blood, God’s promise real and tangible. Generous and true, how can I go into 2017 and into my neighborhood with tangible generosity? And how is it possible to do so with the kind of joy and enthusiasm that the beautiful young women in this picture manifest? Truly, the only way that I will be able to muster a fraction of theirs is by doing so in community: the Body of Christ, and all that. What will that look like for us? for me?

  • There’s a beautiful young man in this photo too – not just women – sexist! 😉 But good words. And I love this picture and them and our family and church family! 🙂
